A/Prof Sally McCarthy AO FACEM MBA FIFEM works at Prince of Wales Hospital ED Sydney as a senior emergency physician, and as an independent expert for the coroner, medical board and in emergency care systems. Sally has been Director of major EDs in metro and rural locations, past President of the International Federation for Emergency Medicine and the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine, consultant for the WHO, and holds/ has held numerous peak leadership roles in emergency medicine and in health. Her academic appointment is at UNSW, Sydney. She was a leader in establishing the ACEM certificate and diploma qualifications for non-EM specialists, and the National Program funded since 2011 by the Australian Govt. She set up the NSW Emergency Care Institute supporting more than 180 EDs in NSW and is a principal investigator of the Australian and New Zealand Airway Registry. She was awarded an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for distinguished service to emergency medicine and leadership roles.
