Professional Bio
Associate Professor Neil Cunningham has been an Emergency Physician in Melbourne since 2006 and is the Medical Director for St Vincent’s Private Hospitals Melbourne. He is an expert in human factors, crisis management, and performance under stress in resuscitation rooms and disaster events. He has worked in simulation for 18 years, authoring the human factors manual for ACEM’s Acute Complex Medical Emergencies simulation course. His work with emergency doctors and clinical supervisors includes leadership development, conflict management, communication within and across teams, and gender equity in the workplace. He managed the junior doctor workforce during the COVID-19 pandemic, overseeing cultural and structural change, and is the national lead for a professional accountability model designed to address unprofessional and uncivil behaviour in the workplace. He is an internationally renowned expert in the emergency management of joint dislocations, having described a number of novel techniques for joint reduction.
