Lyndal Newton
Professional Bio
Dr Lyndal Newton is the Chief Medical Officer at Northern Beaches Hospital and a National Dementia Medical Advisor for the Severe Behaviour Response Team at Hammond Care. She also serves as a Voluntary Assisted Dying Practitioner, with recognised expertise in end-of-life care.
Dr Newton is widely respected for her leadership in dementia care and behaviour management. Her clinical research centres on the pathophysiology and management of delirium and dementia, with a particular focus on the Behavioural and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia (BPSD).
She is the former Head of Unit for Geriatric Medicine and Director of Adult Medicine at Northern Beaches Hospital and previously held a Staff Specialist role at Prince of Wales Hospital. Her career spans hospitalist care, community outreach, Aboriginal Health Services, and aged care, alongside significant contributions to aged health policy and service design at both state and federal levels.
Dr Newton continues to shape medical education as a Senior Lecturer at the University of New South Wales and formerly as Clinical Lead for Medicine at the Northern Beaches Macquarie University Clinical School. She holds additional qualifications in critical care and university teaching and has received multiple awards for excellence in clinical education.
A former NSW Division President and Federal Council Executive Member of the Australian and New Zealand Society for Geriatric Medicine, Dr Newton remains a passionate advocate for innovation and quality in aged care through research, education, and clinical leadership.
